Season FIVE & Week 13 Results

Ten years.

Ten years is a long time. Ten years is a lifetime. So much changes over the course of a decade. Families grow, people change. Friendships fall apart, and new ones take their place. Memories are made, and others are made to forget. We grow older, and grow fonder for times long past, or inspired for times to come. But, growth is good. Growth is needed.

Ten years ago, I was sitting alone in my childhood bedroom as a wayward freshman in community college. I had a TV in my room, but on that chilly overcast Saturday, it wasn’t on. We weren’t watching The Game because Ohio State was in the midst of their first losing season in over 100 years. The Buckeyes were lost. Regressing. I felt the same way. I didn’t know what direction to take my life, but I knew I had to go somewhere. I knew I had to keep going. I knew I had to keep growing.

That’s what I did. It hasn’t been easy, and it hasn’t been a terribly straight path, but I’m still growing. Ten long years of growth. Ten long years of change. But for Michigan, it’s been ten long years of the same result. The same heartbreak to cap off each football season. No Big Ten Championships. No BCS nor College Football Playoff appearances. No new result. But, just like us, they kept growing. Kept forging ahead.

I have a lot of respect for the rivalry, and the history of the teams and schools. That’s why it’s taken so seriously and means so much. I respect that Michigan has gotten up from the mat every single year just to get beaten back down again. Obviously as an Ohio State fan, that is one of the finer joys in life. To continuously best your rival no matter how hard they fight or how much they change……but there’s that word again.

I think I have it now. Ohio State has changed a lot in the past ten years. They are now a Death Star of college football, and mentioned in the same breath as Alabama, Georgia, Clemson, and the other juggernauts of the sport. They changed and improved. But it’s not a straight line. The Buckeyes have a lot of change ahead of them, and on the defensive side of the ball – in the near future. But we know that they are up for the task, and it’s only up from here. For Michigan, it feels like a fresh start or curse finally lifted. They can finally breathe, and can center themselves to grow back into the juggernaut they once were, or grow into something new entirely. That’s the funny thing with change though, we won’t know where it leads us until we’re standing right there.

So, here’s to ten more years. Here’s to ten new years.

Season Results

And just like that, Season 5 has come to an end! I am so thankful that we were able to share another college football season together. Also thank you to Nick for joining this year! You have been an incredible addition to the league.

What a ride Season 5 has been! From bringing our prizes back (thank you Benj) to 4 people hitting a Marinelli this season (0-10 while trying), we’ve had a lot go down.

SPEAKING OF GOING DOWN

THE KING IS DEAD LONG LIVE THE KING

Your NEW WTS Bets Champion is….

Matthew

That’s right lady and gentlemen, it’s over. His reign of terror has come to an end. It took as long as World War II, and just as much effort, but Jonathan has been defeated after four long years! The Trombone Trophy is coming home at last.

I’ve prayed for this day. Thank god this past weekend wasn’t a total loss.

In Second Overall, is our former Champion, Jonathan. He had a tough stretch at the end but didn’t really slide that much. Like Alabama, you won’t win ‘em all but we will all very much assume that you will.

In Third Overall is Kait! She never once won a week outright, yet somehow never dipped below 4th all year. She also finished with the exact same W/L Record as Jonathan. If she were a team she’d be Wisconsin. But that’s unfair to Kait since she actually has taste.

In Fourth Overall is Nick! The newcomer finished strong! Not the best rookie finish we’ve had, but still very impressive. If this were a contest for most memes posted in the chat though, he’d be a runaway winner.

In Fifth Overall is Kevin! Probably his best year to date. Multiple #1 Weekly finishes, only 1 Marinelli, and got even better at grilling. Fire Up indeed.

In Sixth Overall is Benjamin! Honestly nothing to say here. Dude is gonna be on Cloud 9 for a while. You’ve earned it bro, congrats.

In Seventh Overall is Christopher. Really, it’s all about having fun, and I can’t think of anyone who’s more fun than Christopher. Also, sixth’s time the charm. #FireLester.

In Eighth Overall is Sully! I think Chris did as much travelling as an NFL team this year, and I had fun living vicariously through his Instagram stories. But, comeback stories have to come from somewhere right? Here we go.
