Meet The League

What’s The Score Betting League was founded on the idea that, if you’re going to have fun and waste money, it might as well be as little as possible. With 4 founding members - Benjamin, Matthew, Christopher, and Jonathan - WTS Bets began in the fall of 2017 to bring a little more fun to the short period that is college football. Heading into the second season of the league, the founding members welcomed newcomers Chris Sullivan and Kevin Pohl to the league.

After a tremendously successful 2nd season, the league continued its growth by welcoming the first female bettor in league history, Kait McDougal. Kait entered behind a class that had outperformed league expectations, and raised the average height of the league to Chad Status. Unfortunately Kait did not add any height, but she did know how Athletic Departments operated, so she was no stranger to cheating.

Below you can get an insight into each member of the league, and their playing styles.

Benjamin

This year on Hard Knocks, HBO is following the basement-dwelling Cleveland Browns because many believe they can actually turn it around.  Will they? Probably not. The same cannot be said for Benjamin. Last year, Benjamin was like his baby daughter Ella, and shat his pants rather early on into the season.  However, he turned it around quite nicely to end the year. Were there growing pains? Yes. Will Benjamin be able to adjust to this new season? Hopefully better than the adjustment of his television.  Benjamin has much to look forward to this coming year; so let’s hope he can capitalize.

Season 2

Moving into Season 2, Benjamin has a rather positive outlook even if he placed dead last a year ago.  His betting strategy saw a massive improvement near the end of the year, and nearly overtook two other teams to claim 2nd Place.  Benjamin has one thing to his advantage this year: his attention to detail. He has his finger on the pulse of college football, and is normally ahead of the other teams when it comes to news and hot takes.  This could help Benjamin fashion a holistic picture of the football landscape and land him some momentus pots. Benjamin has everything lined up this year, so let’s hope he doesn’t have trouble with the snap.

If we were to compare Benjamin to a CFB team; look no further than the Mississippi State Clanga-- I mean Bulldogs.  They should be bad, have been bad, but are looking great lately and can definitely hang with the big boys. Plus they’re loud and are used with music, and some people love it.

Prediction

If Benjamin can stick to his guns this year, and get off to a better start, he has a real chance.  String together a couple of great weeks to start the year, and Benjamin could potentially run away with the lead.

Christopher

Coming into his second season of WTS Bets, Christopher is at a fork in the road.  While many believed he was too volatile of a pick to win the league last year; others saw the potential to overtake the players at the top of the leaderboard.  The beginning of the season saw Christopher fall behind quite dramatically thanks to his bold decision making, and brash wagering. Some say that those things belong in the trash, but that is a rather hot take at this point.  After the rough start, Christopher posted some of the best performances in the league for multiple weeks in a row. Was the potential finally showing its face? Not quite, but it was almost there. If he can sure up his analysis, and capitalize on his fierce betting techniques, Chris could become a force in the league.

Season 2

Moving on to SZN 2, the outlook is exciting.  Not only did Chris end on a high note last season with a tremendous comeback, but he ended up with the #2 overall ranking according to the WTS Bets Post Season Power Rankings.  If we were to compare Chris to a CFB team, one might have to choose either Memphis or FAU. Why those two teams you ask? Let me explain.

When looking at Memphis, they are a fast-paced, high scoring team. However, they also give up a bunch of points.  Very similar to Christopher’s style. Plus they have dope helmets, and Christopher's hair is nice, so those go hand-in-hand.

As for FAU. Just like Memphis, but with memes. So...also like Christopher.

Prediction

If Christopher can hold on to his money a bit better this year, he has a chance of claiming the league title.  He comes from the MAC, so there's no shortage of MACTION on his side. Can he harness it? We shall see.

Jonathan

He’s back.  The VC, the albinism explainer, the man they call Jon.  Rolling into Season 2 of WTS Bets, Jonathan has nothing to fear it seems.  He absolutely Agent Orange’d the competition last year, winning by an astronomical 5.19 points and SEVEN FUCKING DOLLARS.  2nd Place was decided by 26¢. Will Jonathan use last year’s momentum to finally claim that 30 Rack he was talking about; or will he have to settle for a 6 pack? One can only hope it’s neither.  Jonathan is the clear-cut favorite to take home the trophy once again this year, and anything else would be a disappointment.

Season 2

Looking ahead to the season, Jonathan has many tools he can utilize to attack the competition.  The patience shown by Jonathan and his moderate betting indicates that he has a well thought out game plan that can adapt to many situations.  Also, many bets showed precision when analyzing the competition. That is scary for the other teams when they seem to be using a “Spray and Pray” technique at times. And when you come at the King, you best not miss.

If we were to compare Jonathan to a CFB team, the only team that comes to mind is the 2014 Ohio State Buckeyes.  I know it seems lazy, so let me explain. Like the Buckeyes, Jonathan had some slips and bumps in the road. However, they were very slight, and everything else was a slaughter on the way to a championship.  Will Jonathan be like the 2015 Buckeyes in his encore performance? It’s unclear yet, but he should stay away from rain, and Tim Beck.

Prediction

Steer clear, this train has no breaks.

Chris Sullivan

The new guy. Chris steps into the fracas as a fresh face unaware of what he is getting into. Some may say that he is like a majestic Serengeti herbivore nearing the lions’ den. Not unlike the herbivore, Chris has exceptional wit and tenacity that allows him to make effective decisions (and not get eaten alive). However, he is a wildcard with no previous league history. He’s like the Tampa Bay Rays or the 1999 Cleveland Browns: no history to speak of and a potentially bright future ahead. Chris has the potential to be the dark horse league champion because of these factors. With an accounting background, and a deep love for Instagram sports accounts, Chris has an eye for detail and the ability to discern the proper moves.

Season 2

Looking ahead, there is not much to say about Chris’s strategy or techniques. However, as a Cleveland sports fan, it can be believed that Chris will be patient with his bets and not overreact to weekly changes. It’s a long road ahead, but Chris knows how to navigate.

When considering a team that most similarly represents Chris, it is possible that the 2007 Kansas Jayhawks best represents him. They came out of nowhere; burst into the Top 3 of the AP Poll and upset some big schools; and their mascot has very long legs.

Prediction

With his quick thinking, Chris will most likely fight for the 2nd spot in the league after climbing the ladder.

Matthew

You’re looking at the man with the plan. Your Commissioner. From my idea, this league was brought to life, and through the help of the other members, it is flourishing. I cannot say the same for my betting strategies, however. Last year, I started off extremely hot; and just like my social life, I became extremely cold. I ended up relinquishing the #2 overall spot to Christopher in the last two weeks of the season because I was too concerned about not losing rather than winning. That leaves many questions needing to be answered this season. Can I bring more stability to my betting this year? Why do I like dad shoes? Is spikeball rigged? I need answers.

Season 2

Moving into SZN 2, I have the advantage of free time at my disposal. I can look up more stats, and football trends at work and put them to action more readily than other members of the league. Will that help me in the long run? Possibly. Also, my investigative skills to find new and exciting questions for the league allows me to find interesting tidbits that I can potentially use to gain larger pots.

When considering a team that most similarly represents me, the only team I can think of is the 2014 Florida State Seminoles. I am constantly at the front of the pack, and can occasionally dominate, but it looks sorta ugly and is rather confusing. Shouldn’t I lose more? That’s what you think.

Prediction

If I can properly use my analytical skills, and add more patience to my strategy, I can make a run for the title. However, that has yet to be seen. There is hope though.

Kevin Pohl

So here’s the thing: we don’t know much about our newest member betting-wise because he joined as an expansion team halfway through SZN 2. What we do know, is that the man has an eye for success, but a heart for rippin’. Kevin has many skills that could bring him into the fold as a serious threat to the upper-tier teams in the league. Unfortunately, Kevin’s late arrival will keep him from contending for a title in his first year. Since he starts after the halfway mark, the National Koval Betting Association of America, or Matt for short, deems teams ineligible for the playoffs if they do not participate in the first half of any given season. But here’s the thing, Kevin can still claim best record or win percentage at the end of the year, and claim a consolation prize. The Man Who Fires Up has the football program experience, and critical thinking skills to make a tremendous run for all future prizes. Kevin has the intangibles to become a powerful force in the league moving forward. He has the brains, the background, the drinking habits. He has it all.

Season 2

Looking ahead, Kevin has a lot of catching up to do if he wants to gain the respect of the other members of the league. However, Kevin is graced with a key advantage. He lives in Indiana. Therefore, staying inside and looking up football stats is definitely much more enjoyable than actually talking with “hoosiers”. Will Kevin grab this opportunity and turn it into league success? Hopefully. Can Kevin become a true contender? Oh fuck yeah, bud.

When considering a team that most similarly represents Kevin, we have to go with the 2016 Louisville Cardinals. They were extremely fun, dressed nicely, and lived in the middle of nowhere. Also, they had the ability to capture the attention of everyone, but you definitely needed to know who they were first. Hopefully Kevin is less one-dimensional than they were.

Prediction

Through his confident rationale, and A+ attitude, Kevin can overtake some mainstays in WTS Bets. However, his tardiness will be too much to overcome in SZN 2.
